Environmental Regulations
(1986) Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Acts - This helped solve areas that had hazardous waste problems and area. It proved Georgia residents with the resources needed to clean up the hazardous waste sites.
(1987) Water Quality Act of 1987 - This strengthened previous water quality regulations by adding larger consequences for violating the acts.
(1989) Montreal Protocol on ozone-depleting chemicals - The introduction of an international treaty designed to phase out the production of many halogenated hydrocarbons that have shown to deplete the ozone layer. Results have shown in ozone regeneration in Antarctica.
(1989) Basel Convention - An international treaty designed mainly to reduce the movements of hazardous waste from developed countries to less developed countries. This does not address nuclear waste, only hazardous waste and the generation and toxicity of it.
(1990) Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 - This act sets new auto mobile emission standards, low sulfur gas, and requires best available control technology(BACT) for toxins. This helps address acid rain, ozone depletion, and toxic air pollution.
(1990) Oil Pollution Act - This prevents the U.S. government for being liable for oil spills of the coast of the United States. It states companies must have a way to prevent the spill or be able to contain and clean it up.
(1991) Inter-modal Surface Transportation Efficiency Act - A federal law aimed to make a major change to transportation planning and policy with highways.
